Who you are actually calling
Since December 2008 the Water Authority has blended treated surface water from the San Juan-Chama project with groundwater from both sides of the river, and served the mix across the system. That is why hardness is published per distribution zone rather than as one city figure, and why two houses twenty minutes apart can be carrying genuinely different water. The only number that matters for your house is the one off your own tap, which is why we test it before we quote anything.
Meet Anton Determan
Albuquerque does not have one hardness number. The water authority publishes it by distribution zone and says it ranges from moderately hard to hard depending on the blend your area gets. So the city average describes nobody's house, including yours.
That is the part most of this industry skips. It is easier to sell one package to everybody than to look at what a particular house is actually on, so that is what usually happens — and the customer pays for equipment aimed at a problem they may not have.
We would rather do the slower thing. We look at your own supply, we tell you what is in it and where that figure comes from, and we build for that. When something we sell would not change anything in your house, we say so. It is a strange thing for someone selling water treatment to say out loud, and it is the reason people call us back.
You get one price and it is the price. No three-hour appointment at your kitchen table, and no number that moves depending on whether you look likely to say yes tonight.
