Why we do it this way
Most people here are sold the wrong thing.
Ask what the water is like in Albuquerque and most companies will quote you a city average. There isn’t one. The Water Authority publishes hardness by distribution zone, and its own words are that depending on the sources and the blend, it ranges from moderately hard to hard. An average across the city describes nobody’s house.
It changes again the moment you leave town. Rio Rancho is not on the Albuquerque blend at all — it pumps its own groundwater. Corrales, Placitas and the East Mountains are largely private wells, where the problem is usually iron and sulfur rather than hardness, and a softener on its own will not touch either. Same company, three genuinely different builds.
That is why we test at your own sink before we quote anything. You see the result while we are standing there, and then you get one out-the-door price. If the water does not argue for a system, we will say so in your kitchen.

How hard is the water in Albuquerque?
It depends which distribution zone you are in, and that is the Water Authority's own position rather than ours. ABCWUA publishes hardness zone by zone and says that depending on the sources and the blend, it will range from moderately hard to hard. There is no single city number to give you. We test at your kitchen sink and tell you what your house is actually getting.
Why does my neighborhood differ from the other side of town?
Because the supply is a blend. Since December 2008 the Water Authority has mixed treated surface water from the San Juan-Chama project with groundwater from both sides of the river. The proportions are not the same everywhere, so the hardness is not the same everywhere.
What does it cost?
It depends on the house, the water and the system, so we will not put a number on a web page and then change it at your door. We test your water, show you what it needs, and give you the out-the-door price before you decide anything. Financing is available through Synchrony Bank.
What is a tankless reverse osmosis system, and how is it different?
A reverse osmosis system pushes water through a membrane fine enough to take out dissolved contaminants a standard filter cannot catch. The difference with the HW800 AlkaPro we install is that it makes the water on demand rather than storing it in a bulky tank under your sink, and it remineralizes it afterwards so it does not taste flat. It is certified to NSF/ANSI 58, 42 and 372.
Do I need the whole-home system and the RO, or just one?
They do different jobs. The whole-home softener and carbon filter protect your plumbing, your water heater and your fixtures from scale, and take the chlorine out of every shower. The RO handles what you drink and cook with. Plenty of people start with one and add the other. We will tell you which one your water argues for.
Is a softener going to make my water taste salty?
No. The salt regenerates the resin bed inside the tank and is flushed out with the rinse water. It does not go into the water you drink. If the taste is what is bothering you, that is a filtration and RO question rather than a softening one.
What if I am on a well rather than city water?
Different problem and a different system. Wells around the metro bring iron, sulfur and manganese, which a softener alone will not handle. We install dual-tank setups with Katalox Light and an AIO ProValve for that, and an iron and sulfur package with peroxide injection where the water needs it.
How long does an installation take?
Most installs are done in a day. We haul away any old equipment, walk you through the system before we leave, and we are local if anything needs looking at afterwards.
